Nairobi 1

I loved the sound of the call to prayer from the mosque on Waiyaki Way in Westlands. Sometimes I would time a stroll to the grocery store at Sarit Shopping Centre just so I could hear the sweet sacred sound rolling out of the white and green building.

The streets were almost always full of men and women and children darting in and out of one another’s path, but it was always different on Friday, as the faithful made their way from their homes or poured out of Matatus, the gates opening as the razor wire gave way to a holy day.

Remembered this experience/image–a stroll I would often make–and wanted to jot it down for future use.
